Terms of Service
The agreement between us.
Last updated: June 2026.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the KAIZEN mobile application, the website at getkaizen.app, and related services (together, the "Service"). The Service is operated by the makers of KAIZEN ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Your use of the app is also governed by our End-User License Agreement (EULA) and our Privacy Policy, which are incorporated into these Terms by reference. Where the EULA's app-store license terms conflict with these Terms, the EULA controls for the licensed application itself.
1. What KAIZEN is — and is not
KAIZEN is a personal-development app for affirmations, daily mini-stories, journaling, "future-self" messages, and an anonymous community for people on similar paths. It is not therapy, not medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice, and not a crisis or emergency service. KAIZEN does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. If you are in crisis or may be a danger to yourself or others, contact your local emergency number or a crisis hotline immediately. We surface jurisdiction-aware resources inside the app, but they do not replace professional or emergency help.
2. Eligibility and your account
- You must be 16 or older. KAIZEN is not directed to and may not be used by anyone under 16. We collect your month and year of birth once to confirm eligibility; this is a declared age check, not identity verification.
- One account per person. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account.
- Sign-in. You sign in with Apple, Google, or an emailed one-time code — there is no password. Anyone with access to your email or linked Apple/Google account can sign in, so keep them secure. If you lose access, contact [email protected] and we'll help you recover the account.
- Provide accurate information and keep it current. We may suspend accounts that appear to be fraudulent, automated, or shared.
3. Your content and the license you grant us
"Your Content" means everything you write, record, or share inside KAIZEN — your onboarding story and goals, journal entries (text and voice), voice recordings, community posts, and messages. You keep ownership of Your Content.
You grant us a limited, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transcribe, and display Your Content solely to operate and provide the Service to you — for example, generating your affirmations, stories, and future-self messages; building your private voice model (only with your consent); transcribing voice notes; and running the anonymous community. This license ends when you delete the relevant content or your account, except for backups that age out on our normal retention cycle and anything we must keep to comply with law.
We do not claim ownership of Your Content, do not sell it, do not show advertising against it, and do not use Your Content to train third-party or shared AI models. See our Privacy Policy and What we'll never do.
4. AI-generated content
Affirmations, stories, journal prompts, and future-self messages are generated by AI from your own dossier (and, for grounding, from anonymised success-story moments contributed by other users that contain no identifying details). AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unexpected. It is for reflection and encouragement only. Do not rely on it for any medical, legal, financial, or safety decision, and use your own judgment.
5. Your voice
We only create a private, per-user voice model from your recordings if you turn the voice toggle on. That model is used only to read your own future-self messages back to you in your voice. It is never shared with other users, never sold, and never used to train third-party or shared models. You can revoke consent at any time in Settings; we stop using the model immediately and trigger deletion at our voice provider, completed within about 24 hours. All audio KAIZEN generates carries an inaudible watermark for provenance and anti-deepfake protection. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
6. Community rules
- The community is anonymous by default and is not a dating service. Don't use it to pursue romantic or sexual connections.
- Don't try to identify, locate, or contact other users off-platform.
- No sexual content, harassment, hate speech, threats, bullying, or self-harm encouragement.
- No solicitation, spam, scams, or giving medical, legal, or financial advice to other users.
- Don't share personally identifying details — yours or anyone else's — and don't post others' private information.
- One-to-one direct messages require mutual opt-in. Your real name is never exposed in the community.
- We run a moderation pipeline. Moderation actions (warn, mute, remove content, ban) can be appealed in-app and are reviewed by a different moderator.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or attempt to extract source code or data, except where law expressly permits;
- interfere with, overload, or probe the Service or its security;
- use KAIZEN to impersonate anyone, or to generate audio of any person other than yourself;
- distribute KAIZEN-generated audio in a way that misleads listeners about who is speaking, or remove or tamper with the watermark;
- upload unlawful content or content you don't have the right to share;
- use the Service to build a competing product or train a machine-learning model.
8. Subscriptions, trials, and billing
KAIZEN offers an auto-renewing subscription, available in monthly and annual terms, with an optional 7-day free trial for eligible new users. The trial is opt-in — it is not applied automatically. The price shown at purchase is the price that applies; it may vary by region and currency.
All purchases are made through and processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play. By subscribing you also agree to the platform's terms. Key points of the auto-renew model:
- If you start the free trial, you are not charged during the trial. We send a reminder before any charge.
- The subscription renews automatically at the listed price for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription, and turn off auto-renew, anytime in your App Store or Google Play account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period; you keep access until then.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we generally cannot issue store refunds directly.
We may change prices or plan features; changes apply to future billing periods, and we'll give notice where required.
9. Your privacy rights and data
You can export your data and your audio archive, correct your onboarding answers, restrict processing (e.g. turn off voice cloning, notifications, or community), and delete your account — all from Settings. Account deletion triggers the data-wipe behavior described in the Privacy Policy, including deletion at third-party providers.
10. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate an account that violates these Terms, the community rules, or applicable law, or to protect users or the Service — with notice where reasonably possible. On termination, your license to use the Service ends and your data is handled per the Privacy Policy.
11. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI output will be accurate or suitable for any purpose. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain disclaimers, so some of these may not apply to you.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or USD $50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, losses, and reasonable legal costs arising from Your Content, your use of the Service, or your breach of these Terms — to the extent permitted by law.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes, we'll notify account holders by email or in-app at least 14 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where we are established, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules, and subject to any mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. We encourage you to contact us first to resolve any dispute informally at [email protected].
